Manila, Philippines — Alternative rock icons Pixies are finally heading to Manila as part of their 40th anniversary world tour, marking a milestone moment for both the band and Filipino fans who have waited decades to see them live.

Formed in Boston in 1986, the Pixies helped shape the sound of modern alternative rock — influencing bands like Nirvana and Radiohead — with their dynamic quiet-loud shifts, surreal lyricism, and genre-blurring catalog. From staples like Where Is My Mind? (famously featured in Fight Club) to deep cuts beloved by longtime fans, their discography remains as unpredictable as it is influential.
Ahead of the Manila show brought to you by Karpos, guitarist Joey Santiago shared that even after four decades, the band is still chasing those rare moments on stage.
“Not every show we do is perfect. And that’s all right… Those magical nights when the four of us click, and we all just nail it, that’s a very rare thing to happen. And we keep looking for that.”
Manila, he adds, signals the start of a new touring season for the band — and that alone brings a different kind of energy.
“When we’re going to the Philippines, we’re going to be really on our toes… excited because it’s going to kick off a new season for us to tour.”

Even with decades of experience, the mindset remains grounded. More than just a nostalgia act, the Pixies continue to approach music with curiosity and freedom. For new listeners discovering the band today, Santiago emphasizes that their catalog was always meant to be experienced as a full body of work.
“The Pixies requires listening to a whole album… It’s just like a crazy radio station.”
As they bring their 40-year legacy to Manila, one thing is certain: this isn’t just a concert — it’s a rare opportunity to witness one of alternative rock’s most influential bands live on Philippine soil.
