Singer-songwriter Kobe Silvestre talks about making music as an outlet, how his The Next Odd Creature journey built his confidence as a musician, and more.
One of the top 5 finalists of O/C Records’ The Next Odd Creature talent search, the folk-rock musician Kobe Silvestre is getting closer to the goal, explicitly turning dreams into a reality.
“Medyo mahirap parang paniwalaan na ‘yung dating parang dream mo lang, ngayon parang unti-unti na siyang pwedeng abutin,” he says.
Silvestre’s fondness for music begins during his freshman year in high school. As he riddles out a way to express mysterious feelings and emotions, the singer-songwriter’s buzzing artistic flair leads him to the art of songwriting in which he concludes to be his outlet for expression.
“Writing is a good outlet for me kasi hindi ako magaling magsalita pero pag kinakanta ko siya, nalalabas ko ‘yung gusto ko sabihin at the same time, hindi siya awkward pakinggan,” he explains.
He adds, “‘yung songwriting sakin is pag may nakita akong mali or may nararamdaman akong gusto kong ilabas, sinusulat ko lang sya.”
Silvestre has released numerous noteworthy tracks, including his debut single ‘Peeking,’ followed by ‘Nowhere,’ ‘Dilim,’ ‘Take Ur Name,’ ‘Alpas,’ ‘Ambulansya,’ ‘Tulong,’ and his latest track entitled ‘Pahinga.’
While Silvestre reaps inspiration for the narratives he aims to share through his songs from uncanny features of the environment we are all in, his distinctive ability to probe deeper into the core of inner emotions is what makes his music “odd” and powerful.
The rising artist shares, his motivation to write and produce more music is entrenched with his drive to express himself in his own artistic approach. On top of that, the public’s fulfilling response is what keeps the ball rolling.
On his The Next Odd Creature journey, Silvestre reveals that the experience helps build his confidence as a musician. He shares how he has always been reluctant to share his music and present his art in front of a crowd, for he constantly finds himself visualizing and anticipating how the listeners perceive his stories. His The Next Odd Creature journey empowered and validated his artistic capabilities.
When asked about why he should be The Next Odd Creature, Silvestre swiftly responds, “Why not?”
He adds, “All my life I’ve been ‘odd’, parang feeling ko lagi akong naiiba sa school, that’s why I dropped out kasi uhmm well, ibang-iba talaga ako dun sa environment and feeling ko baka ito ‘yung tamang lugar para sa’kin na parang baka dito ko ma-amplify yung gusto kong sabihin,”
O/C Records' The Next Odd Creature talent search was launched in April 2021. The winner gets Php50,000 and a management and recording deal with O/C Records.
