Exploring What Feels Like Her, Star Abelar Is Making Room to Play

Los Angeles, USA — Star Abelar is letting herself have fun with music.

After exploring different sounds throughout her earlier work, the singer and content creator is

entering a new chapter with INIT, a release that feels closer to where her musical interests are

now. Drawing inspiration from the P-pop scene around her, as well as artists like Tyla, Star is

leaning into something more rhythmic, playful, and undeniably vibey.

It’s a different direction from what she’s done before—and that’s exactly what makes it exciting. Rather than trying to recreate an older version of herself, Abellar is taking cues from the music she genuinely enjoys listening to. INIT carries those influences while still giving her room to figure out what feels distinctly hers.

And it doesn’t stop with one song.

With Fresh and Crushie Crushie also on the way, Star is building toward an EP arriving in November. If INIT introduces this new side of her sound, the project as a whole promises something lighter and more playful—what she describes as a fun experience, without feelin like every song needs to tell one specific story.

“I just wanted INIT to feel like me right now. I’ve been exploring a lot with my music, and this

feels really different from what I’ve done before.”

There’s something freeing about that approach. Not every release has to arrive with a grand

explanation. Sometimes, a song can simply capture a mood, a moment, or a version of yourself

that you’re enjoying being.

FINDING THE FUN IN IT

That sense of play comes through especially in Fresh and Crushie Crushie.

While INIT draws from a more defined set of musical influences, the upcoming tracks allow Star to explore a cunty, more chaotic side of her personality. They’re less about building a complicated narrative and more about creating something that feels fun to listen to. For an artist still exploring her sound, that openness matters. Star isn’t approaching the EP as a declaration that she has finally figured everything out. If anything, it feels like an invitation to experiment—to take the things she loves, put them together, and see what comes out of it. And perhaps that’s what makes the project feel cohesive despite the different energies within it: the songs come from the same place of curiosity.

A MULTI-HYPHENATE

Music may be at the center of this chapter, but Star’s creative life doesn’t end in the studio. “I like to explore different sides of my creativity… I don’t think I have to choose just one thing.” She’s a multi-hyphenate, moving between music, content creation, vlogging, and interviewing. Soon, she’ll also be adding Twitch to the mix, where she hopes to spend longer, more personal stretches of time with her audience. She’s also exploring acting, having already tried out for projects as she continues to see where else her interests can take her.

But rather than treating these as separate identities, they seem to feed into one another. The more spaces she enters, the more references, people, and experiences she gets to bring back into her creative work. Even her experiences outside the Philippines—particularly her interest in the opportunities available in places like Los Angeles—have expanded her perspective on what a Filipino creative can pursue.

She’s also watching Filipino talent make its own space internationally, from Alex Eala’s achievements in tennis, Forgotten Island showcasing pride for our country globally through film, to BINI’s appearance at Coachella. For Star, that growing visibility is something to be excited about, especially as she considers what it means to build her own career beyond the Philippines while still finding an audience at home.

LETTING THE MUSIC FIND ITS PEOPLE

For now, though, Star isn’t overthinking where the music has to take her.

She wants to enjoy it.

Of course, she’d love for the songs to find the right audience in the Philippines, but there’s something refreshing about not forcing the destination before the journey has even started. The EP can simply exist, reach whoever it reaches, and introduce people to another side of who she is.

Maybe that’s the real point of this new chapter.

Star is still a content creator, interviewer, vlogger, and aspiring actress. But right now, she’s also an artist giving herself permission to play with sound—to take inspiration from the P-pop scene, pull from artists she loves, and build something that feels fun.

She’s not trying to fit neatly into one definition. She’s just seeing what happens when she follows the things that excite her.
