A playful take on obsessing over an ex’s new partner: Nameless Kids, Cesca go “mental” in song collab
OPM indie band Nameless Kids teams up with singer-songwriter Cesca for “mental,” a playful pop track about the messy feelings that come with losing someone and becoming fixated on the person they’re dating next.
Written by Nameless Kids’ Nhiko Sabiniano and Cesca during a songwriting camp in Davao in 2024, “mental” captures the all-too-familiar experience of struggling to move on while wondering who has taken your place. With its catchy pop sound and cheeky take on heartbreak, the song turns post-breakup obsession into something lighthearted and relatable. Its lyric video is now available on YouTube.
“mental” follows Nameless Kids’ recent releases “temporary,” “sinungaling,” and “kuha mo na,” which are set to be part of the band’s forthcoming album.
Since making their debut with the single “Outlaws” in 2020, Nameless Kids has steadily built a following with their distinct indie sound and heartfelt songwriting. They released their debut EP “Shoes out the Door!” in 2021 before gaining wider recognition with “Sayo (Ang Mundo)” and “Gabi,” which have both surpassed three million streams on Spotify. In 2023, the band released their first album “Manila in Bloom,” featuring tracks such as “Hotel Runs” and “Bukas Na Lang.”
Meanwhile, Cesca has carved her own space in the OPM scene with her soft melodies and heart-wrenching lyrics, as heard in songs such as “Lovesick - Pagmahalasakit.” She released her debut EP “Travel” in 2022, which has since amassed more than 20 million streams on Spotify. She followed it with her sophomore EP “Balse ng Gabi,” featuring a collaboration with Maki on the title track. Early this year, she returned to music with “I’m Nilalamig” and “Lovesick (Mas Pinasakit).”
